Throwing a wonderful winter wedding

Throwing a wonderful winter wedding

The nights may be darker but the sparkle is brighter! Throwing a winter wedding is coming to be as popular as a summer wedding to announce the ‘i dos’, not only for the reduced prices! Here are our go-to tips for throwing a wonderful winter wedding!

Throwing a wonderful winter wedding

LIST OF LOCATIONS…

Be sure to ask what your options are in terms of the ceremony and reception. Are outdoor areas available? Are they shielded from the wind? Will everyone fit comfortably? How cold will they be? Be sure to run through options and pick what is best for you and your guests.

ARRANGE AN EVENING VISIT…

When picking a venue you should request a visit at night as well. Of course, what it looks like during the day is important, but the majority of your wedding will be when the sun goes down. Taking an evening visit will allow you to see a number of factors:  How cosy is it? Is it warm? What lighting does it have? Ensuring your venue has these factors will help you throw a wonderful winter wedding!

IN CASE YOU GET COLD…

Whether you are hosting an indoor or outdoor winter wedding, offering blankets to your guests is a must for the ultimate cosy feel! Use blankets that match your wedding theme colour or embroidered with your initials for the cutest wedding addition. Unless you are offering them as wedding favours, we wouldn’t suggest having them for every guest; just provide a few and your guests can share.

THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE…

Nothing screams winter wonderland like the warm glow and light flicker from candles! We love incorporating them within table designs for the ultimate romantic feel for dinner, or is there a large open fireplace? Fill the fireplace with different-sized candelabras (or sit the candles within large vases for a safer option) for a gorgeous winter wonderland theme.

TWINKLE TWINKLE…

We love the use of fairy lights to add a romantic touch to the dark setting. When looking around the venue, find the best areas to decorate with added twinkles. Maybe an archway or a large tree in the garden would look spectacular for a backdrop. Remember, you can never have enough twinkling lights!

BEHIND THE BAR…

It’s safe to say that most weddings have alcohol available, but should this change for a winter wedding? Whilst the temperature shouldn’t change what you wish to offer to your guests, it may inspire you to add some extra options. Find out if it’s possible to have warm drinks available as well. Hot chocolate or mulled wine bar would be a gorgeous addition.

FESTIVE FEAST…

Cheese fondue, heartwarming soup, moulton chocolate pudding? Scrap the dainty canapes and offer your guests some serious comfort food! When the air is cold, one thing everyone desires is a heartwarming meal full fo dairy and carbs.

GET THE PARTY STARTED ASAP…

Name a better way to keep warm than dancing the night away? Make sure you get the party started not long after dinner is finished to ensure everyone is up on the dance floor.

PLOTTING PLAN B…

A winter wedding may just be a little bit chilly and it may be perfectly ok to stay in that temperature for the duration of the ceremony. If temperatures drop more or it begins to snow, that can change plans for the big day. Be sure to ask the venue if there is a Plan B in case of a drastic weather change.

BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE…

Naturally, you want to make sure you capture some seriously gorgeous pictures on your special day. For some couples, this involves being outdoors regardless of what the temperature may be. Ask the venue where the best locations are for photos and any logistics for that particular area.

WRAP UP…

So you found gorgeous bridesmaid dresses that may not be winter appropriate, but you have to have them? Provide shawls for your bridesmaids to turn any gorgeous gown into the perfect winter dress.

COAT CHECK…

Low temperatures mean lots of layers. As most of your guests will be bringing hats, coats and scarves, it’s a good idea to have somewhere they can be easily stored. Ask the venue if they have somewhere designated for this. If there isn’t a room allocated, ask if somewhere can be made available.

WINTER WONDERLAND DISCOUNT

It’s proven that winter is the least chosen season to get married, although this is on the rise. For the majority of couples, this is due to the weather and the restrictions it applies. As this is the case, many venues will offer discounted prices or special deals for the winter months. Be sure to ask about anything that is available. Remember, always save money where you can!
